Jathi means a rhythmic pattern of syllables used to create dance sequences. Jathiswaram is a dance sequence tunes executed by the combination of Jathis set to a combination of Swaras in a particular Ragam and Thalam.

 

In jatiswaram the dancer presents pure dance with a wide range of adavu* sequences (The basic Dance steps) as well as rhythmic patterns.

 

It is distinguished from other musical compositions with no lines of poetry.
